Ft. Smith livestock sales report

Ft. Smith Livestock, Ft. Smith, Ark., reported receipts of 821 head Oct. 13, compared to 602 head last week and 815 head last year, according to the Arkansas Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to last week, slaughter cows were $2 to $3 lower. Slaughter bulls were mostly steady. Feeder steers and heifers were $2 to $4 lower. The supply included 415 feeder calves, 240 feeder yearlings, 51 replacement cows, 97 slaughter cows, 15 slaughter bulls, and 3 replacement bulls. The feeder supply consisted of about 40% English breed and English crosses, 30% exotic breed and exotic crosses, 30% Brahman and Brahman crosses, and 0% Holsteins and other dairy breeds. The feeder supply included about 60% steers and bulls with 40% heifers.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 46.00 to 49.50; high dressing, 50.00 to 54.50. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 40.00 to 49.50; high dressing, 46.00 to 50.00; low dressing, 35.00 to 39.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 48.00 to 52.50; high dressing, 53.00 to 57.00; low dressing, 43.00 to 47.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 54.00 to 59.50; high dressing, 60.00 to 65.00.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1 350 to 395 lbs., 117.00 to 124.00 (120.88); 400 to 440 lbs., 108.00 to 116.00 (109.67); 450 to 495 lbs., 100.00 to 113.00 (104.13); 500 to 528 lbs., 100.00 to 109.00 (104.09); 720 to 745 lbs., 81.00 to 88.50 (82.83). Medium and large frame 2, 310 to 346 lbs., 100.00 to 114.00 (110.22); 370 to 390 lbs., 110.00 to 115.00 (113.41); 400 to 445 lbs., 86.00 to 104.00 (97.06); 450 to 495 lbs., 90.00 to 99.00 (95.50); 500 to 545 lbs., 90.00 to 99.00 (95.05); 550 to 595 lbs., 85.00 to 95.00 (89.35); 600 to 648 lbs., 85.00 to 93.50 (88.50); 660 to 680 lbs., 80.00 to 88.00 (83.71); 853 lbs., 74.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 2 to 4 years old, 750 to 1100 lbs., open cows, 62.00 to 76.00; 5 to 7 years old, 750 to 1100 lbs., open cows, 46.00 to 56.00; 2 to 6 years old, 800 to 1200 lbs., second stage, 57.50 to 75.00; 5 to 7 years old, 1000 to 1350 lbs., third stage, 50.00 to 63.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 4 to 6 years old, 800 to 1250 lbs., with 100- to 200-lb. calves, 775.00 to 780.00 per pair.
