Amarillo livestock sales report

The Amarillo Livestock Auction, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 614 head Oct. 14, compared to 336 head last week and 1,857 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, there was no adequate price trend comparison available on feeder cattle or slaughter cows and bulls due to the extremely light offerings last week. Recent rains all weekend and declining price trends at auctions have some sellers taking wait and see attitudes before selling. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300- to 600-pound feeder steers and heifers. Trade and demand were light to moderate. Slaughter cows made up 6% of the offering, slaughter bulls 1%, replacement cows 20% and feeders 73%. The feeder supply included 55% steers and 45% heifers, with nearly 20% of the run over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, package 367 lbs., 123.00; two lots 422 to 434 lbs., 118.00 to 121.50; part load 533 lbs., 102.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, package 310 lbs., 118.00; lot 433 lbs., 119.00; few small lots 440 to 450 lbs., 108.00 to 109.00; lot 514 lbs., 106.00; package 516 lbs., 99.00, fleshy 500 to 580 lbs., 89.00 to 92.00; lot 605 lbs., 95.00. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, package 302 lbs., 97.00; package 487 lbs., 97.00; few small packages 500 to 560 lbs., 90.00 to 95.00; package 658 lbs., 85.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, lot 397 lbs., 96.00; lot 482 lbs., 93.00; package 500 lbs., 92.00, fleshy 550 to 600 lbs., 84.00 to 85.00; part load 793 lbs., 89.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 300 to 350 lbs., 95.50 to 97.00; 400 to 475 lbs., 92.50 to 94.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 85.00 to 88.50.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1645 lbs., 45.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1450 lbs., 44.00 to 49.50; high dressing, 50.00 to 51.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1250 lbs., 45.00 to 48.50; high dressing, 49.50; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 44.00 to 46.50; low dressing, 35.00 to 38.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1600 to 2100 lbs., 54.50 to 59.00; low dressing, 1200 to 1500 lbs., 50.00 to 52.00.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young, 1100 to 1250 lbs., bred 3 to 6 months, 980.00 to 1000.00 per head. Middle-aged, 1000 to 1300 lbs., 3 to 6 months bred, 720.00 to 810.00 per head; middle-aged, 1000 to 1300 lbs., 1 to 3 months bred, 630.00 to 790.00 per head.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, middle-aged, 900 to 1200 lbs., with 150- to 250-lb. calves at side, 860.00 to 1190.00 per pair. Aged, 950 to 1100 lbs., with 100- to 200-lb. calves at side, 640.00 to 650.00 per pair.

Breeding bulls: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, Angus bulls, young, 1050 to 1390 lbs., 750.00 to 1175.00, individual 1550.00 per head.
