Oklahoma 4-H Foundation provides opportunity to golf for a cause

Oklahoma

The Oklahoma 4-H Foundation is hosting its annual Clover Classic Golf Tournament slated Oct. 13 at the Oak Tree Country Club in Edmond, Okla.

"The Clover Classic provides a unique opportunity to play golf on a great course while also benefiting the Oklahoma 4-H Youth Development Program," said Jered Davidson, 2008 Clover Classic chairman and a former Oklahoma 4-H member.

Golfers have the opportunity to participate at various levels. Gold sponsors can play for $1,200 and receive registration for four players, 18 holes of golf, breakfast and lunch for four, and the eligibility to win prizes. Team sponsors, valued at $1,000, hole sponsors, valued at $300, and individual players, valued at $250, are also available. Each level has varying benefits.

"More than 100 individuals and companies donated prizes last year, and this year's prize list is equally as spectacular," Davidson said. "The benefits are two-fold: Golfers have a chance to win great prizes and receive recognition, while youth benefit from proceeds that further develop and enhance 4-H programs in Oklahoma."

Davidson said they are still accepting donations of items to use as gifts and prizes as well.

The event begins with refreshments and registration at 9 a.m. Golfing begins at 10 a.m., with a shotgun start. The Oklahoma Pork Council provides lunch, and an awards presentation at 2 p.m., tops off the day's activities.

To register or find out more about the 2008 Clover Classic golf tournament, please call the Oklahoma 4-H Foundation at 405-744-5390.

Originally a youth organization developed in 1909 to promote and enhance agriculture, today's Oklahoma 4-H provides a variety of projects for youth ages 5 to 19, including citizenship, healthy living, science and technology, math, and engineering. More than 162,000 Oklahomans are involved in Oklahoma 4-H, and the organization celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2009.
