Nebraska meat processor given state award

SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. (AP)--Meat processor Beef Products Inc., has received a state economic development group's "industry of the year" award.

Gov. Dave Heineman recently presented the Nebraska Diplomats award to BPI co-founders Eldon and Regina Roth.

Heineman noted that BPI, the largest producer of lean boneless beef, has initiated a four-year expansion of its flagship facility in South Sioux City. The expansion involves a $400 million investment and is expected to lead to the eventual creation of 300 jobs by 2010.

A new 450-acre industrial park in South Sioux City is named for the Roths.

BPI shared the honors with Smeal Fire Apparatus Co. of Snyder, Neb.
