Montana stockgrowers and wool growers nominate board members

Montana

Recently, the Montana Stockgrowers Association and the Montana Wool Growers Association, the two longest-standing livestock organizations in the state, co-signed a letter to Governor Brian Schweitzer nominating Leo McDonnell of Columbus and Dave McEwen of Galata to fill the Board of Livestock seats vacated in September by the resignations of Meg Smith and George Hammond. The Stockgrowers and Wool Growers touted McDonnell's lifetime of experience in cattle ranching, business and cattle marketing. The two organizations lauded McEwen's broad scope of knowledge of both the cattle and sheep industries in the state.

"We feel that both candidates exemplify the experience and leadership that the livestock industry needs from its representatives on the Board of Livestock," said Steve Roth, president of the Montana Stockgrowers Association. "Both will strengthen the knowledge base of the board so it will be better able to serve and protect Montana's highly valued livestock industry."

"Both nominees would do a great job on the board," said John Helle, president of the Montana Wool Growers Association. "We are especially excited about Dave McEwen because of his understanding of the predator issues faced by both the sheep and cattle industries in our state."
