Wyobraska cattle auction report

The combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending Oct. 25, totaled 13,000 head, compared to 6,000 head last week and 10,600 head last year, according to the USDA-Wyoming Department of Agriculture Market News, Torringtoin, Wyo.

Compared to last week at Wyoming auctions, steers under 500 pounds were $5 to $10 higher, 500 to 600 pounds were $4 to $6 higher, 600 to 800 pounds were steady to $3 higher, over 800 pounds were steady to $2 lower. Heifers under 600 pounds were $4 to $10 higher, over 600 pounds were steady to $3 higher. Overall quality was very good with good buyer demand. Direct trading was slow. Demand was light to moderate. There was no price comparison from last week. Buyer inquiry was light to moderate for moderate offerings. Unless otherwise noted direct prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent, and with a 5 to 10 cent slide on calves and 3 to 6 cent slide on yearlings from base weight. Steers made up approximately 56% of the supply, heifers 44%. Offerings over 600 pounds totaled 26%. Direct sales accounted for 1700 head of the total receipts.
