Wolves attack livestock in southwestern MontanaBOZEMAN, Mont. (AP)--State wildlife officials have reported several recent incidents of wolves attacking livestock in southwestern Montana. The Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks says wolves killed three cows on private land in the Big Hole Valley east of Wisdom this month. Wolves also killed 16 sheep on private land southwest of Dillon, and a calf in the Centennial Valley southeast of Dillon. FWP says wolves killed two domestic goats and a guard dog and injured another goat and dog this month on private land in the Rattlesnake Creek area northwest of Helena. The agency says it is handling each incident separately, but may collar wolves in the area to learn about their movements, authorize USDA Wildlife Services to kill some wolves, or issue landowners permits to shoot up to two wolves that return to their property. 11/3/08 Date: 10/29/08
