West Virginia broker sentenced in cattle scamBECKLEY, W.Va. (AP)--A Greenbrier County man has been sentenced to more than eight years in federal prison stemming from a cattle scam. U.S. District Judge Thomas E. Johnston on Oct. 17 also ordered Kevin Scott O'Brien to pay $3.4 million in restitution to farmers and banks he defrauded. The 28-year-old O'Brien of Ronceverte brokered cattle sales in Greenbrier and Monroe counties and in several other states. He admitted selling the same herd to different buyers. O'Brien pleaded guilty in February to mail fraud. The judge also gave prison terms to two former First National Bank of Ronceverte officials involved in a bribe from O'Brien. Charles Henthorn, the bank's former president, received a nine-month sentence and G. Thomas Garten, a former bank board member, received five months. 11/3/08 Date: 10/30/08
