The 2008 honorees are Jerry L. Stahr of York and Richard L. Fleming of Lincoln, according to Ken Anderson, chair of the Nebraska Agribusiness Club's Awards Committee.

Anderson said the banquet is open to the public. Tickets are $23 each. Reservations must be mailed by Oct. 27 to Dayle Williamson, 5315 Thies Cove Drive, Lincoln, NE 68516, phone 402-441-3178 or 402-488-5590.

Stahr has been a farm operator since 1975 and raises dryland and irrigated corn, soybeans and alfalfa. A member of the Nebraska LEAD Class XIX, Stahr is past president of the Nebraska LEAD Alumni Association, Nebraska Agricultural Leadership Council, York County Corn Growers, York County Extension Board, York County 4-H Council and the Farmers Co-op at York. He is a member of the York General Health Care board of directors and vice president of the Waco Fire board of directors.

The York Area Chamber of Commerce Ag Business Person of the Year in 2005, Stahr was the York County Corn Growers Man of the Year in 2002 and was named Midwest Ridge-Till Man of the Year by the University of Minnesota in 1998. He and his wife, Sue, are the parents of five children.

Fleming was raised on farms in Massachusetts and Kansas. He holds a B.S. degree in agricultural journalism from Kansas State University, a M.S. in agricultural economics and a Ph.D in adult and continuing education, both from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He joined UNL in 1956 as assistant Extension editor and has served in agricultural communications, academic and administrative positions on both campuses. He developed and taught undergraduate and graduate courses and workshops for adults and youth in agricultural journalism, communications, marketing and continuing education. Fleming retired in 1996 as professor emeritus in the Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education and Communication and continues to work on projects for the department and IANR.

He was elected to the Nebraska Hall of Agricultural Achievement and is past president of the Nebraska Agribusiness Club, Midlands Chapter of the National Agri-Marketing Association and the Nebraska Professional Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists/Sigma Delta Chi.
