Tips to stay more positiveProblem: I have been watching so much television lately, that I think I am becoming unhinged. There is nothing on it but the constant talk of financial crisis, and the campaign. It seems like there is nothing to do but worry about the future, because I surely can't fix the state of the country. I do not agree with what is going on with people hating others and financial collapse being the big topics of the day. What do you do when you are interested in the future but you cannot do anything about it? Discussion: First I would turn off the television and do what I could to keep my own house in order. In other words pay attention to your own life and what you can do to keep a more positive attitude and view of life. In case you have not noticed, the news generally contains the bad stuff and lots of material to consider, but it is hardly every positive. Maybe getting a good book that tells you how to stay positive in negative surroundings, would be a good thing. You are right we cannot do much about some of the big things that people are talking about, but we can do what we can, with our own families and ourselves. If others are being hateful and negative, maybe you can be the person that is more loving and perhaps more thought provoking without negativity. You see we are ultimately in charge of our own thinking, and we have to put good material in our minds to think in a better way. If you are losing sleep and on a downward spiral, you might ask: what am I putting into my mind? What sustenance am I getting to be more positive? Tips on how to stay more positive: 1. Go out there and do something good for somebody, because you want to. 2. Do not be in the company of the "nay sayers"; look for positive company if you need company. 3. Keep your nest in order and in turn keep your thoughts more orderly. 4. Remember you are in charge of your life and ultimately you are the one who makes or breaks it. 5. If you are worrying about the things you can't change. Remember that worry is like rocking in a rocking chair, it gives you something to do, but it does not get you anywhere. Do a couple of the things on the list and you might find your more optimistic self. 11/3/08 Date: 10/27/08 Advertisement
