Sioux Falls sheep sales report

The Sioux Falls sheep auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported receipts of 572 head of sheep and goats Oct. 28, compared to 641 head last week and 1,593 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, slaughter lambs sold steady to $1 higher. Slaughter ewes sold steady to weak on a light test. Feeder lambs again too few to test. Quality of ewe and slaughter lamb offerings more attractive than last week. Receipts included about 60% slaughter lambs, 30% slaughter ewes, 7% feeder lambs and the balance was bucks and miscellaneous sheep.

Slaughter lambs: Shorn Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 19 head, 132 lbs., 97.25. Wooled, Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 12 head, 128 lbs., 95.75; 130 to 143 lbs., 95.25 to 97.25 (96.73); 18 head, 163 lbs., 94.75. Wooled, Choice and Prime 2 to 4, 27 head, 118 lbs., 92.50. Wooled, Choice 2 to 3, 115 to 126 lbs., 90.25 to 93.75 (92.54).

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, fleshy, 10 head, 143 to 159 lbs., 20.00 to 24.50 (22.37); 167 to 191 lbs., 19.50 to 25.50 (24.27). Utility 1 to 2, Medium flesh, 22 head, 157 lbs., 19.00; 14 head, 161 to 170 lbs., 15.50 to 17.00 (16.34). Cull 1, thin, 12 head, 144 to 157 lbs., 5.00 to 11.00 (7.63); 18 head, 164 to 168 lbs., 5.00 to 9.00 (8.09).

Feeder lambs: Medium and large 1 to 2, 14 head, 99 lbs., 92.00 to 93.50 (93.07); 6 head, 103 lbs., 101.00; 5 head, 116 lbs., 93.50.

Slaughter kids: Selection 1, 7 head, 64 lbs., 99.00.

Slaughter nannies/does: Selection 1, 23 head, 109 lbs., 43.50. Selection 1 to 2, 16 head, 96 to 122 lbs., 39.50 to 42.00 (41.34).
