Range and pasture lacks moistureWyoming Cold nights and warm days were seen during the week ending Oct. 26, and moisture was limited, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, Wyoming Field Office, Oct. 27 Wyoming continues to experience typical fall weather with cool nights and warmer days. The precipitation last week was limited. High temperatures ranged from low 50s to low 70s. Low temperatures were from single digits to high 20s. Topsoil moisture levels rated adequate or better remained at 75 percent, unchanged from the previous week and 31 points up from the average. Subsoil moisture levels were rated at 57 percent adequate or better, 30 points above the average. An average of 6.1 days were suitable for fieldwork last week. Cold nights continued to slow the crop progress. There were no significant changes noted in crop conditions compared to last week. Ninety-five percent of dry beans have reached the windrowed stage with 80 percent combined, 16 points below 2007 and 10 points below the average. Corn in the dent stage was at 91 percent with 64 percent mature and only 5 percent harvested. Harvest was 23 points below the previous year and 34 points below the average. Fifty-four percent of sugar beets were harvested, 17 points below 2007 and 15 points below the 5-year average. Alfalfa cut for the third time was rated at 68 percent, 30 points below last year and 26 points below the average. Range and pasture conditions were reported at 44 percent good or better, unchanged from last week and 19 points above the average.
