Park named to Roy B. Davis endowed professorship

Texas

Dr. John L. Park has been named to the endowed Roy B. Davis Professorship in Agricultural Cooperation at Texas A&M University.

Park is an associate professor in the department of agricultural economics at Texas A&M and a Texas AgriLife Extension Service economist.

The endowment was created in 1971 to honor Roy B. Davis, general manager of the Plains Cooperative Oil Mill and long-time leader in agriculture and cooperative development in Texas.

"The appointment of Dr. Park will continue a long-standing tradition of leadership in education and research, furthering Texas agriculture and beyond," said Tommy Engelke, executive vice president for the Texas Agricultural Cooperative Council.

Park serves on the board of directors of the Texas Agricultural Cooperative Council, which provides education and training to develop management and board leadership among many cooperatives in Texas, Engelke said.

His research program focuses on value-added agriculture and management issues facing cooperatives and other businesses associated with agriculture and rural communities.

"When John first joined our faculty, he established an excellent record in teaching and student engagement covering areas of marketing and agribusiness management," said Dr. John Nichols, department head for agricultural economics at Texas A&M. "Several years ago he added a new faculty appointment in extension providing statewide leadership in education and research relating to cooperatives. He now teaches our cooperatives course in addition to agricultural marketing. We're extremely proud to have someone of John's caliber serving in this position."
