OKC West livestock sales report

The OKC West Livestock Market Inc., El Reno, Okla., reported receipts of 7,640 head Oct. 29, compared to 5,068 head last week and 4,979 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, feeder steers were steady to $1 higher. Feeder heifers were steady to $2 higher. Demand was moderate to good for feeder cattle. The bulk of the supply were calves, with several reputation brands available. Steer and heifer calves were steady with good demand. The supply included 51% over 600 pounds, 38% under 600 pounds, 11% cows and bulls. Heifers comprised 39% of supply. Slaughter cows were $1 to $3 lower. Slaughter bulls were steady. Packer was demand moderate at best but many cows returning to the country. The cow supply included ranch-raised bred heifers and bred cows and these sold to very good demand. A total of 825 cows and bulls sold with 29% going to packers.

Replacement cows: Heifers, 900 to 1150 lbs., 5 to 6 months bred, high blacks, 950.00 to 1160.00; 4 to 5 years old, 1050 to 1275 lbs., 6 to 7 months bred, average blacks, 800.00 to 935.00; 4 to 5 years old, 1000 to 1075 lbs., 2 to 3 months bred, high quality, 850.00; 4 to 7 years old, 1000 to 1300 lbs., 3 to 5 months bred, average blacks, 670.00 to 800.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 2 to 3 years old, 850 to 950 lbs., with 100- to 250-lb. calves, average to high quality, 1125.00 to 1300.00; 4 to 5 years old, 950 to 1250 lbs., with 175- to 400-lb. calves, average to high quality, 1125.00 to 1275.00; 8 years old, 1300 lbs., with 350- to 450-lb. calves, average blacks bred back, 930.00.
