OKC West livestock sales reportThe OKC West Livestock Market Inc., El Reno, Okla., reported receipts of 7,640 head Oct. 29, compared to 5,068 head last week and 4,979 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla. Compared to last week, feeder steers were steady to $1 higher. Feeder heifers were steady to $2 higher. Demand was moderate to good for feeder cattle. The bulk of the supply were calves, with several reputation brands available. Steer and heifer calves were steady with good demand. The supply included 51% over 600 pounds, 38% under 600 pounds, 11% cows and bulls. Heifers comprised 39% of supply. Slaughter cows were $1 to $3 lower. Slaughter bulls were steady. Packer was demand moderate at best but many cows returning to the country. The cow supply included ranch-raised bred heifers and bred cows and these sold to very good demand. A total of 825 cows and bulls sold with 29% going to packers.
