Newell sheep sales reportSt. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 2,932 head Oct. 23, compared to 4,147 head last week and 5,177 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to last week's sale, feeder lambs under 80 pounds sold mostly $3 to $5 lower. The offering lacked the bloom and freshness of last week. Feeder lambs over 80 pounds sold steady to $2 lower. Slaughter ewes sold steady to weak. Buyer attendance was light with moderate demand. The supply consisted of approximately 15% slaughter ewes and bucks, 83% feeder lambs, and 2% replacement ewes. Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, fleshy, 170 head, 147 lbs., 13.00; 200 head, 161 lbs., 13.50. Cull 1 to 2, thin, 54 head, 126 lbs., 8.75. Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 65 to 69 lbs., 99.25 to 100.25 (99.90); 71 to 79 lbs., 93.50 to 97.25 (96.25); 81 to 87 lbs., 94.00 to 97.00 (95.20); 90 to 99 lbs., 93.00 to 96.75 (94.67); 102 to 103 lbs., 90.25 to 92.00 (91.75); 111 to 112 lbs., 87.00 to 88.25 (87.57). Medium and large frame 2, 50 to 52 lbs., 95.25 to 96.25 (96.02).
