McAlester livestock sales report

The McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Okla., reported receipts of 2,515 head Oct. 28, compared to 2,785 head last week and 2,775 head last year, according to the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, steer and heifer calves were $5 to $8 lower, feeder cattle were $2 to $4 lower, losing all of last week's gains. Poor worldwide economic conditions fueled lower trade at all markets. Cattle were in medium to fleshy condition with many more attractive cattle in trade. Receipts included 49% steers, 40% heifers with 25% cattle over 600 pounds. Slaughter cows and bulls were steady with last week's trade. There was good attendance of buyers and active trade. A total of 285 cows and bulls sold with 70% going to packers.

Light, 38 head, 85 to 90% lean, 750 to 1000 lbs., 36.00 to 39.00; high dressing, 40.00 to 41.50; low dressing, 31.00 to 35.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 21 head, 1350 to 2000 lbs., 60.00 to 62.50; high dressing, 66.50; low dressing, 56.00 to 58.50.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 3 to 4 years old, 925 to 1200 lbs., 4 to 7 months bred, average qualit,y 625.00 to 650.00; 6 to 7 years old, 1000 to 1110 lbs., 4 to 7 months bred, average quality, 575.00 to 585.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 6 to 7 years old, 1200 to 1375 lbs., with 125- to 200-lb. calves, average quality, 885.00 to 950.00.
