MSGA participates in NILE eventsMontana The Montana Stockgrowers Association participated in several events at the Northern International Livestock Exposition recently in Billings. MSGA sponsored this year's Merit Heifer Show and MSGA executive vice president, Errol Rice, judged the interview portion of the program. The Merit Heifer Program is designed to help youth get a start in the beef cattle business by awarding heifer calves donated by some of Montana's premier breeders to project participants chosen on the basis of merit, need, future goals and ability to care for the animal. During the program duration, participants are responsible for raising the heifer, arranging for her to be bred, completing the record keeping procedure and bringing the animal back one year later as a bred replacement heifer for exhibit at the NILE Stock Show. Each program participant owns their calf jointly with the NILE until the completion of the program, at which time NILE officials sign off and the participant takes full ownership of the heifer and her offspring. The application deadline for next year has already passed. For more information please visit www.meritheifer.com/prog.html. The MSGA Lithia Dodge truck was used to set up the barrels for the rodeo each night at the NILE. One lucky MSGA member will drive away from the 2008 Annual Convention, Dec. 11 to 13 at the Holiday Inn Grand in Billings, in a truck sponsored by Lithia Dodge of Billings, First Interstate Bank of Billings, the Northern Ag Network, Western Ranch Supply, Pfizer Animal Health, WALCO Animal Health and MSGA. This year, MSGA and Fort Dodge Animal Health teamed up to present a raffle for a three day/three night package to the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas. The winning ticket was drawn after the conclusion of the NILE and the lucky winner was Della Ehlke of Townsend. She will receive tickets to the rodeo, hotel accommodations and $500 for travel. MSGA and Fort Dodge hope to make this raffle an annual event to benefit MSGA's Advocacy Fund. 11/3/08 Date: 10/29/08 Advertisement
