IPSA goes 'Back to the Future' for 20th Annual Conference

The Independent Professional Seed Association will host its 2009 Annual Conference, Jan. 20 to 22, 2009 at the Westin Hotel in downtown Indianapolis, Ind.

The Annual Conference theme for this historical event is "Back to the Future." IPSA President Bill Latham stated, "This 20th Anniversary conference provides an important opportunity for IPSA to recognize the history of the Association, while keeping a direct emphasis on future challenges facing independent seed companies."

This year, IPSA will focus on specific topics as they relate to the different roles of individual seed company owners and employees. Educational breakout sessions will be divided into four tracks, representing owners, sales staff, office administration, and production staff.

General session topics will address changes in the industry and how seed companies can maintain a competitive edge. Farm Journal and Top Producer's John Phipps will serve as keynote speaker for the first General Session. John was raised on a five-generation farm in east-central Illinois. Throughout his career, John has sold computers and software to farmers, worked in a mortgage banking operation as a closing officer, and taught at the Danville Area Community College. Today, John appears regularly in Farm Journal and Top Producer magazines as a contributing editor. His work has been published in Farm & Country in Canada, Produktion in Denmark, and the American Enterprise. John will examine aspects of farming that may be forever changed as farming operations become larger in a presentation entitled, "What if This IS Normal."

Echelon Management will head up General Session II with a plan that will provide members with strategies, tactics and techniques to build their businesses. Sandy Costa will serve as the Keynote Speaker for this General Session. Sandy is a 30-year veteran CEO renowned for his insights and relational leadership practices honed through years of explosive growth in the global pharma market. A gracious and crowd inspiring speaker and author of the book, "Humanity at Work: Encouraging Spirit, Achievement and Truth to Flourish in the Workplace." Costa will help seed companies integrate processes that improve effectiveness by increasing sales, gaining customer share, defining and following a strategic plan of continuous improvement for their companies.

The conference will wrap with General Session III. Robert Ian will astound attendees with mind-boggling magic and illusion as he reveals a step-by-step system to identify, master and conquer both personal and work-related change. Robert is author of the book "How To Identify, Master and Conquer Change." He has appeared on ABC, CBS, NBC and the FOX television networks, and delivered more than 3,000 seminars worldwide for clients ranging from Amoco to Zenith. College football legend Lou Holtz calls Robert "a first class act."

"This year's IPSA Annual Conference provides companies with a valuable mix of education and entertainment--mark your calendars and make plans to attend" offered Greg Ruehle, IPSA's Chief Executive Officer. Information regarding registration and exhibit opportunities will be publicized as they become available.

The Independent Professional Seed Association was formed in 1989 by a group of independent seed producers who recognized the need for an organization to represent independent seed companies world-wide. The Association addresses research and biotechnology issues and increases the media presence of the industry in an increasingly competitive and dynamic business climate. IPSA represents more than 100 seed companies from 20 states and Canada, who produce nearly 20 percent of the corn, soybeans, small grain and forage seeds marketed annually.
