Dalhart livestock sales report

The Cattleman's Livestock Commission Co., Dalhart, Texas, reported receipts of 2,513 head Oct. 23, compared to 556 head last week and 3,596 head last year, according to the Texas Department of Agriculture Market News-USDA Market News, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, there was no good price trend comparison available on feeder steers and heifers due to very limited test last week, however, a much higher undertone was noted. Slaughter cows and bulls were firm to $1 higher. Trade and demand were moderate to good. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 250- to 900-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 12% of the offering, slaughter bulls 2%, and feeders 86%. The feeder supply included 64% steers and 36% heifers, with nearly 34% of the run over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, package 231 lbs., pre-conditioned 151.50; 300 to 400 lbs., pre-conditioned 135.00 to 137.00, two packages 390 to 392 lbs., 126.00 to 129.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 107.50 to 115.00, pre-conditioned 119.00 to 122.50; 500 to 600 lbs., 96.00 to 105.10, pre-conditioned 109.00 to 111.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 95.50 to 99.50, calves 92.00 to 95.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 90.00 to 95.50, calves 88.00 to 91.00; 800 to 900 lbs., 93.50 to 96.50, lot calves 89.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, load 245 lbs., pre-conditioned 147.00; three packages 321 to 392 lbs., 114.00 to 124.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 93.00 to 95.00, pre-conditioned 98.00 to 101.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 89.00 to 91.00; package 751 lbs., pre-conditioned 93.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 300 to 400 lbs., pre-conditioned 110.00 to 116.00, package 398 lbs., 108.50; 400 to 500 lbs., 97.00 to 100.00, pre-conditioned 104.00 to 110.50; 500 to 600 lbs., 90.00 to 95.00, pre-conditioned 95.50 to 98.25; 600 to 700 lbs., 90.00 to 92.00, calves 84.50 to 88.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 87.50 to 88.00, lot 761 lbs., calves 86.00; package 809 lbs., 86.75. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, load 256 lbs., pre-conditioned 131.00; package 384 lbs., 105.00; few 500 to 600 lbs., 85.00 to 90.50; 600 to 700 lbs., pre-conditioned 85.00 to 98.00.

Slaughter cows: Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1400 lbs., 48.00 to 50.50; high dressing, 52.50 to 55.25. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 47.00 to 50.50; high dressing, 52.50 to 53.00; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 48.00 to 53.00; low dressing, 43.00 to 44.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1700 to 1800 lbs., 65.00 to 70.50; low dressing, 1300 to 1500 lbs., 55.50 to 61.50.
