2008 Kansas Soybean Yield Contest details announced

Kansas

The late soybean harvest this year has one benefit, there is still time to enter the Kansas Soybean Association yield contest.

KSA is holding its annual soybean yield contest again this year with the assistance of Kansas State University Agricultural Extension. The Kansas Soybean Commission, No-till on the Plains and various soybean seed companies will provide funds for cash awards and plaques for six districts in fourteen different categories, including no-till and irrigated contest winners.

In addition to entering the yield contest, soybean farmers may also enter the quality contest. A 20 ounce sample of seed from the harvested field will be analyzed for protein and oil content and a value will then be calculated.

Current KSA members are not required to pay the entry fee. There is a $10 entry fee for contestants. The deadline for entries is Nov. 30. Details on the program and an entry form with a district map can be obtained by contacting the KSA office at 800-328-7390 or on the front page of the KSA section of the website at http://www.kansassoybeans.org.
