Washington county approves feedlot

KENNEWICK, Wash. (AP)--Easterday Ranches Inc., is moving ahead with plans to build a feedlot in rural Franklin County after county commissioners signed off on the proposal.

The proposed feedlot would hold as many as 30,000 cattle near the communities of Eltopia and Mesa, east of the Hanford nuclear reservation.

The Easterdays already operate a similarly sized feedlot in rural Benton County.

Some neighbors opposed the feedlot, fearing it will deplete their ground water supply. But Franklin County commissioners approved the permit Nov. 17 over the objection of area landowners.
