Manda Rosser named as Montague Scholar

Texas

Dr. Manda Rosser has been named the 2008-2009 Montague-Center for Teaching Excellence Scholar by the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Texas A&M University.

Rosser is an assistant professor in the department of agricultural leadership, education, and communications.

"I am honored and grateful to be selected for this award," she said. "My passion is teaching students. I always learn so much from them and enjoy helping them develop their leadership skills. I am excited about being able to improve my teaching and help students learn more effectively."

Each year the college identifies one tenure-track assistant professor who has demonstrated a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching. The award includes official recognition by the Montague-Center for Teaching Excellence and a $5,000 grant to develop and conduct research about innovative teaching techniques.

"This is a distinct honor and is indicative of her outstanding commitment to the teaching profession," said interim dean Mark Hussey.

Rosser has been employed by Texas A&M since 1999 and a member of the faculty since 2005. She earned three degrees from the university: a bachelor's degree in agricultural leadership and development, a master's degree in agricultural education and a doctorate in human resource development. Her teaching and research focus on leadership education and development.

The Montague-Center for Teaching Excellence Scholars Program was initiated in 1991. Named for founding donor Kenneth Montague '37, this program allows the university to recognize early career excellence in teaching. For more information, visit http://cte.tamu.edu.

With an enrollment of almost 6,700 students in 14 academic departments, the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Texas A&M offers more than 80 undergraduate and graduate degrees and has a faculty of nearly 400 members, including two Nobel laureates. Research programs include food sustainability and safety, human and animal health, genetics, renewable natural resources and bioenergy.
