Major income tax law changes explained at free farm income tax seminar

Iowa

Five major pieces of legislation affecting income taxes were passed in 2008. Those changes, and others, will be discussed at the 2008 Farm Income Tax Seminar broadcast on the Iowa Telecommunications Network from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., Nov. 25. The Iowa Farm Bureau, Iowa State Center for Agriculture Law and Taxation and the Iowa Farm Business Association cooperate to provide this seminar.

Roger McEowen, Leonard Dolezal professor in agricultural law at Iowa State University , will present information on the new tax law changes for 2008. Charles Brown, farm business services administrator at Iowa Farm Bureau, will present farm income tax strategies and information on how the new tax law changes might affect individual farm operations.

"For the last 15 years we have used the ICN to bring the latest information on farm income tax law to farmers across the state," said Brown. "The information we provide is critical to farmers and their operations, and this year is no exception considering all of the changes in income tax law."

The seminar will be broadcast at 21 ICN locations across the state, and two-way communication is available at those sites. Questions are welcomed. Registration is free, and no pre-registration is required.

Brown will also be on hand to present the 2008 Farm Income Seminar at three county Farm Bureaus in early December. He will speak at the Wayne County Farm Bureau on Dec. 1 from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., Jefferson County Farm Bureau on Dec. 8 from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Mahaska County Farm Bureau on Dec. 9 from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
