Ft. Smith livestock sales report

The Ft. Smith Livestock, Ft. Smith, Ark., reported receipts of 1,051 head Nov. 1, compared to 951 head last week and 960 head last year, according to the Arkansas Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to last week, slaughter cows were $3 to $4 higher. Slaughter bulls were steady. Feeder steers and heifers under 450 pounds were steady, over 450 pounds were $2 to $3 lower. The supply included 580 feeder calves, 318 feeder yearlings, 43 replacement cows, 99 slaughter cows, 9 slaughter bulls, and 2 replacement bulls. The feeder supply consisted of about 40% English breed or English crosses, 30% exotic breed or exotic crosses, 30% Brahman and Brahman crosses; and no Holsteins and other dairy breeds. The feeder supply included about 55% steers and bulls with 45% heifers. Prices follow with weighted average price in parenthesis.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 38.00 to 42.50; high dressing, 43.00 to 47.00; low dressing, 33.00 to 37.50. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 33.00 to 37.00; high dressing, 38.00 to 42.50; low dressing, 28.00 to 32.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 42.00 to 46.50; high dressing, 47.00 to 51.50; low dressing, 37.00 to 41.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 50.00 to 55.00; high dressing, 57.00 to 61.00.
