American Phytopathological Society installs news officersThe American Phytopathological Society is pleased to announce its officers for 2008-2009. The new officers began their terms at the conclusion of the Society's 2008 Centennial Meeting. This year, APS celebrated its 100th anniversary at the Minneapolis Convention Center, in Minneapolis, Minn., July 27 to 30, 2008. New APS President James W. Moyer, professor and the head of the Department of Plant Pathology at North Carolina State University, has been named President for the 2008-2009 term. As president, Moyer hopes to expand APS's initiative to identify plant pathology training and educational needs in order to remain relevant into the future through reaching out to stakeholders including students, industrial employers, and government agencies. Moreover, he sees an increase in global involvement necessary to facilitate communication between plant pathologists worldwide and to assist the societies that represent them. Moyer succeeded Raymond D. Martyn Jr., Purdue University, who now serves as immediate past president. Other 2008-2009 officials include: Barbara J. Christ, Penn State University, president-elect; John L. Sherwood, University of Georgia, vice president; Danise T. Beadle, Bayer CropScience, secretary; and Randall C.
