Wyobraska cattle sales reportThe combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending Nov. 8, totaled 9,900 head, compared to 13,975 head last week and 11,200 head last year, according to the USDA-Wyoming Department of Agriculture Market News, Torrington, Wyo. Compared to last week at Wyoming auctions, steer and heifers calves under 600 pounds were $2 to $5 higher, over 600 pounds were steady to $4 higher, and some instances were $5 to $6 higher on 700 to 750 pound weights. Overall quality was very good. Demand was good to moderate. Direct trading was slow. Demand was light to moderate. Comparable steer and heifer sales were steady to $1 higher than last week. Buyer inquiry is light to moderate for moderate offerings. Unless otherwise noted direct prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent, and with a 5 to 10 cent slide on calves and 3 to 6 cent slide on yearlings from base weight. Steers made up approximately 58% of the supply, heifers 42% over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 3550 head of the total receipts.
