West Plains regional cattle sales

The Ozarks Regional Stockyard, West Plains, Mo., reported receipts of 5,000 head Nov. 12, compared to 2,696 head last week and 3,150 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo.

Compared to last week, steers under 700 pounds were $2 to $5 lower, weights over 700 pounds were $1 to $3 lower. Heifers were $3 to $6 lower, although most 450- to 650-pound heifers were $5 to $8, with spots $10 lower on 500 pounds. The supply was moderate to heavy. Demand was light to moderate. The market turned fairly sticky this week, especially on middle weight soft and fleshy calves, with the majority of order buyers not nearly as stout as last week. Cattle board, both live and feeders, was mostly down triple digit numbers, however economic concerns and out-front uncertainties played a larger part in the current cattle market. The supply consisted of 62% steers and 38% heifers, with nearly 35% weighed over 600 pounds.
