UNL hires new Extension educator with 4-H, youth focusShane Potter joins West Central District Nebraska Shane Potter moves to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's West Central District from two and a half years at the state 4-H office in Lincoln. While he worked at the 4-H office, he finished his master of science degree in leadership education with a focus on community and youth development. Potter expects to focus on science and technology, expanding and incorporating it into the existing programs. He will work with all the district educators to build cooperation between the counties and the state office. "This is my ideal job," he said. "I'm well set up after working at the state office for a few years. I know the programs and the resources and hope to bring those resources to the county level." UNL considers 4-H its "first classroom," he said. "We're really trying to expand career development skills and basic life skills so youth will be prepared for the future." Potter hopes to help young people make connections between the things they do in 4-H and after school programs and possible future careers. Potter is headquartered at the West Central Research and Extension Center and his area of responsibility includes the 20 counties of the West Central District. 11/17/08 Date: 11/11/08
