Nebraska's crop production numbers updatedNebraska Based on Nov. 1 conditions, Nebraska's corn crop is forecast to be the second highest of record at 1.38 billion bushels, unchanged from last month but 7 percent below the record high set last year, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, Nebraska Field Office. Yield is forecast at 161 bushels per acre, unchanged from last month, the second highest of record but 5 bushels below the previous high set in 2004. Area to be harvested for grain at 8.55 million acres is 7 percent below a year ago. Soybean production is forecast to be the third highest of record at 223 million bushels, 2 percent below last month but 14 percent above last year. Yield is forecast at 46 bushels per acre, down 1 bushel from last month and 5 bushels below the record high set in 2007. Sorghum production is forecast at 19.1 million bushels, down 2 percent from last month and 19 percent below a year ago. Yield is forecast at 87 bushels per acre, down two bushels from the previous month and down 11 bushels from last year. Sugar beet production is down 20 percent from 2007, mostly the result of fewer acres for harvest. Potato production is forecast at 7.9 million hundredweight, down 4 percent from a year ago. 11/17/08 Date: 11/12/08
