Kansas soybean production up, corn and sorghum down

Kansas corn production is forecast at 493.2 million bushels, unchanged from the previous forecast but 5 percent less than last year's crop. Yields are expected to average 137 bushels per acre, unchanged from the previous forecast but 3 bushels below last year's yield. Acreage harvested for grain, at 3.60 million, is unchanged from the previous forecast but down 3 percent from 2007.

Sorghum grain production is expected to total 203.5 million bushels, down 3 percent from the October forecast and 4 percent less than last year. Yields are forecast to average 74 bushels per acre, down 2 bushels from October 1 and 6 bushels less than last year. Acreage for harvest is expected to total 2.75 million, unchanged from the previous forecast but up 100,000 from 2007.

The soybean crop is expected to total 115.2 million bushels, unchanged from October 1 but 34 percent higher than last year's crop. Yields are expected to average 36 bushels per acre, unchanged from last month but 3 bushels greater than last year's yield. Acreage for harvest is expected to total 3.20 million, unchanged from the previous month but 23 percent higher than last year.
