Wine bottling workshop at St. James Winery set for Nov. 14Missouri One of the most costly outlays for wineries is in the bottling line. "Bottling wine is a huge investment in most wineries," said Rebecca Ford, University of Missouri Extension enologist. "It is important that winemakers get as much information as they can about their options." An MU workshop to familiarize winemakers with basic bottling procedures will take place Nov. 14 at the St. James Winery in St. James, Mo. "The workshop is for people who are thinking about buying or upgrading their bottling line. It gives winemakers an opportunity to have hands-on experience in operating a sterile bottling line setup," Ford said. "We will cover types of bottling lines, their components, budgeting and steps from preparing the wine to bottle cleanup," she said. The workshop runs from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and will be strictly limited to 20 participants. Registration, which is $40 for Missouri residents, must be paid by check payable to University of Missouri and mailed to 125 Eckles Hall, University of Missouri, Columbia, M0 65211. For more information, call Rebecca Ford at 573-884-2950 or see the MU Institute for Continental Climate Viticulture and Enology website at http://iccve.missouri.edu/. St. James Winery is one of the few wineries in Missouri operating sterile bottling lines. It is one of the largest wineries in the state, producing 130,000 cases of wine a year. 11/10/08 Date: 11/5/08 Advertisement
