Texas A&M agricultural economics department ranked among top in U.S.

Texas

Texas A&M University's Department of Agricultural Economics has been ranked fourth in the U.S. among agricultural economics departments, according to Academic Analytics, a scholarly database service.

The rankings, reported recently in the Chronicle of Higher Education, were based on a number of criteria, including journal publications and citations per faculty, books published and other scholarly activity.

"We are extremely proud of this recognition which exemplifies the outstanding faculty, graduate education and research programs we have here at Texas A&M," said Dr. John Nichols, department head.

The department's research program spans across agricultural and applied economics in traditional areas, from environmental, resource and production economics, to commodity marketing, agribusiness, and policy, Nichols said.

"And it's reaching into some newer areas, such as energy and transportation economics as well as the economics of food, nutrition and health," he said.

"Not only are we recognized as one of the top extension and research departments in the country, but our department is also one based on premier undergraduate teaching," Nichols noted.

The rankings can be found at Academic Analytics at http://www.academicanalytics.com/TopSchools/TopPrograms.aspx.
