South Dakota Agriculture In The Classroom to hold annual meeting, recognition luncheon

South Dakota

South Dakota Agriculture In The Classroom's annual meeting and recognition luncheon is just around the corner. The event will be held Nov. 12 at the Americ Inn in Ft Pierre, S.D. The emphasis of the event is to recognize the members and sponsors of Agriculture In The Classroom and to honor an outstanding teacher who has helped promote a better understanding of agriculture in South Dakota's youth.

The luncheon will highlight a busy year of accomplishments in ag literacy "Agriculture--Get to Know It!" and showcase the 2008 Teacher of the Year, Kate Nelson and her 3rd grade students from Pierre's Washington Elementary. We will also be presenting the second "Friends of Ag in the Classroom" award to a very deserving partner of our organization.

Prior to the awards luncheon at 10 a.m., CST will be the Annual Membership Meeting. All members and sponsors are encouraged to attend since we will vote on new board members, by-law changes and review the budget and goals for the upcoming year.

For those interested in attending the luncheon, please phone the SD AITC office at 1-800-573-2482 or e-mail at Lisa@sdagclassroom.org to RSVP no later than Nov. 5.

Ag In The Classroom is a nationwide effort to incorporate information about agriculture into elementary and secondary schools. In South Dakota, Ag In The Classroom is funded by a grant from the SD Department of Agriculture, support from state commodity groups, agribusinesses and individuals, all committed to educating youth about South Dakota's no. 1 industry--agriculture.
