NAILE hosts Shorthorn show

The 2008 National Shorthorn Show Nov. 15 to 17 in Louisville

The 2008 National Shorthorn Show will be held during the North American International Livestock Exposition in Louisville, Ky., Nov. 15 to 17. NAILE hosts one of the largest purebred cattle shows in the world, where more than 20 breeds compete, with the Shorthorn breed being one of the largest. The weekend will include Open and Junior Purebred Shorthorn Shows, Open and Junior ShorthornPlus Shows, as well as the Shorthorn Steer Futurity and Breeders' Cup.

The Kentucky Exposition Center will be host to the expected 722 Purebred Shorthorns for the Open Show as well as 281 entered for the Junior Show. Juniors will exhibit their animals Nov. 16 at 8 a.m. The Open Show will take place Nov. 17 at 8 a.m., ending with the selection of the National Champion Purebred Shorthorn Female.

For only the second time ever, the ShorthornPlus Open and Junior Shows will run back to back Nov. 15 beginning at 1 p.m. With nearly double the pre-entries from last year, this composite breed is proving its popularity as an expected 117 total entries will be exhibited.

Nov. 16 at 1 p.m., marks the 25th Annual Shorthorn Steer Futurity and Breeders' Cup which will include 32 steers vying for top honors and Breeders' Cup purse monies. Steers will show in two divisions, Purebred and ShorthornPlus. Prior to the show, breeders have the opportunity to send in sponsorship money of $100 per division, which allows for the nomination of any steer bred by them to be eligible for the Breeder's Cup purse. Last year the Champion Purebred Breeders' Cup steer took home over $2,000 of purse money.
