Farm Bill Explanation Tour scheduled at four locationsColorado The Colorado Association of Wheat Growers is hosting a Farm Bill Explanation Tour at four locations in eastern Colorado on Nov. 19 and 20 to explain the "Food, Conservation, and Energy Act of 2008" recently enacted into law. The 5-year bill, which replaces the "Farm Security Act of 2002", largely keeps the commodity title structure of the 2002 farm bill while adding an optional state-level revenue program called Average Crop Revenue Election in 2009 and creates a $3.8 billion trust fund for disasters called the Supplemental Revenue Program to be used in crop years 2008 through 2011. "With the pending implementation of the 2008 farm bill, CAWG believes it is important to inform producers on how the new farm bill will affect their farming operations and future decisions," said CAWG President Dave Anderson, a wheat producer from Haxtun. "We are very excited to be able to present such a well-informed program to producers." Anderson will also explain CAWG and National Association of Wheat Growers' role in the development and passage of the new farm bill by Congress. Lewis Frank, state executive director of the Colorado State Farm Service Agency Office, will discuss implementation of the new farm bill by county FSA offices. Bridget Hoover, state program specialist for FSA, will discuss implementation of programs within the commodity title, including ACRE and SURE and answer questions. Scott Miller, FSA farm loan specialist, will give an overview of the changes within the credit title. The Farm Bill Explanation Tour will make stops in Lamar, Burlington, Limon, and Sterling. The dates and locations are as follows: Nov. 19: 7:30 a.m., Lamar, Community Building Multi-Purpose Room (complimentary continental breakfast); 7 p.m., Burlington, Community Center (complimentary refreshments). Nov. 20: 7:30 a.m., Limon, Hub City Senior Center (complimentary continental breakfast); 7 p.m..
