Cowboy Christmas Ball set Dec. 20 at Quartz Mountain Resort

Oklahoma

Mark your calendars and shine your boots. The Bob Wills' Texas Playboys are bringing Western Swing music at its best to the Quartz Mountain Resort Ballroom for the Eighth Annual Cowboy Christmas Ball at 8 p.m., Dec. 20.

Grammy-winning guitarist Tommy Allsup, legendary vocalist Leon Rausch, Bobby Boatright and Jimmy Young on twin fiddles, renowned steel guitarist Bobby Koefer, keyboard artist Curly Hollingsworth and standup bass player Ron Ellis will perform to the beat of drummer Tony Ramsey, with Larry Reed on sax and Tulsa horn blowers Mike Bennett and Steve Ham rounding out the sound.

The Sidekicks will open the evening with toe-tapping fast-moving classic Country music plus Cajun tunes and some swing. Led by banjoist Wendell Sollis and featuring award-winning vocalist-accordionist Ginny Mac, their lineup will include guitarist-vocalist Ronny Dale Shultz, Cajun fiddler George Uptmor and drummer Terry Thompson.

In the picturesque Wichita Mountains, 17 miles north of Altus, Okla., Quartz Mountain Resort Arts and Conference Center offers not only a 4,800-square-foot ballroom for the Cowboy Christmas Ball but also 118 rooms for lodging, 11 rustic cabins, dining in the Sundance Café and a range of recreational activities. An extensive art collection adds to the ambience of the resort.

The Bob Wills' Texas Playboys, still playing the legendary music of the late Bob Wills, are the oldest organized band in the country. Information about many of the performers is available on the Internet.
