53rd Annual MGGA Convention and Trade Show kicks-off Dec. 2Montana More than 600 wheat and barley producers and ag industry representatives from around the state are expected to convene at the Best Western Heritage Inn in Great Falls, Dec. 2 to 4, for the 53rd Annual Montana Grain Growers Association Convention and Trade Show. Bing Von Bergen, 2008 Convention Chairman and MGGA Vice President said, "For 53 years, MGGA has been bringing producers, exhibitors and top-notch speakers together to focus on the future of Montana 's grain industry. This year will be no different. We've got a sold out trade show, a jam-packed agenda and lots of opportunities for producers to network with each other, hear from ag professionals and provide input on the direction of MGGA policy for the coming year." During the past year many of our producers have expressed serious concern regarding the current fertilizer situation and the ever evolving grain markets. On Dec. 2 pre-convention seminar will address both of these subjects, each vitally important to the profitability of grain producers. Dr. Alan Blaylock, Senior Agronomist with Agrium U.S. Inc., will present "The Drivers Affecting the Fertilizer Industry and the Industry Response" and Ed Usset, Grain Marketing Specialist from the University of Minnesota 's Center for Farm Financial Management, will present a workshop titled "Launch Your Pre-Harvest Marketing Plan." The convention continues Dec. 3 and 4 with a solid program of speakers and educational programs tailored especially for grain producers. --Dr. Tom Morgan, ag media expert, "Farming, Then and Now" --Dr. Bill Wilson, NDSU ag economist, "Evolution of Biotech Wheat Production" --Dr. Rachel Cheatham, ag nutrition expert, "Consumer Perception of Biotech" --Brett Wilson, General Mills, "Technical Analysis of Wheat Markets" --Louise Gartner, Spectrum Commodities, "Historic Times, What's Next" --Vince Smith, MSU ag economist, "New Farm Bill Programs" --Herb Vasseur, MT Land and Minerals, "Farmers, Ranchers and Now We're in the Oil Business" --Sarah Hamlen, MSU wind specialist, "Wind Energy and What Landowners Need to Know" --Brett Earl and Logan Fisher, Earl Fisher Biofuels, "Update on MT Biofuel Industry" During the evening session, Dec. 3, special guests MSU Mascot Champ, and UofM Mascot Monte, will liven up our annual Wheat PAC auction.
