Tulia cattle auction report

The Tulia Livestock Auction Inc., Tulia, Texas, reported receipts of 2,792 head April 28, compared to 3,156 head last week and 4,661 head last year, according to the Texas Department of Agriculture News-USDA Market News, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers were steady. Slaughter cows were steady. Slaughter bulls were not enough for a market test. Trade and demand were moderate to good. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300- to 1,000-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows and bulls made up 3% of the offering, replacement cows 4%, and feeders 93%. The feeder supply included 66% steers and 34% heifers, with nearly 71% of the run over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, package 270 lbs., 136.00; lot 394 lbs., 126.50; 400 to 500 lbs., 117.50 to 125.00; 500 to 525 lbs., 119.00 to 122.50, part load 517 lbs., thin 123.25, load 593 lbs., 117.00, 550 to 575 lbs., fleshy 115.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 106.50 to 110.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 106.00 to 107.00; 813 lbs., 103.00 to 103.50, package 800 lbs., fleshy 99.00, lot 889 lbs., 96.50; 900 to 910 lbs., 92.00 to 92.50, package 902 lbs., fleshy 91.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, package 293 lbs., 125.00; package 326 lbs., 124.00, package 397 lbs., 121.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 116.00 to 118.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 112.00 to 116.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 106.00 to 108.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 102.50 to 103.50; 800 to 850 lbs., 95.00 to 97.00, 875 to 900 lbs., 90.00; 925 to 940 lbs., 86.00 to 88.00, package 976 lbs., 84.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 250 to 275 lbs., 110.50 to 116.00; 300 to 400 lbs., 113.50 to 119.00, package 377 fleshy 108.50; 400 to 500 lbs., 107.00 to 112.00, package 405 lbs., fancy 114.50; 500 to 600 lbs., 102.50 to 106.50; 600 to 625 lbs., 101.00 to 101.50; 700 to 800 lbs., 96.50 to 98.25, lot 731 fleshy 90.00; lot 962 lbs., fleshy 82.00. Slaughter cows: Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1200 to 1600 lbs., 51.00 to 54.00; 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 51.00 to 53.50; high dressing, 56.00 to 56.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 46.50 to 50.50; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 41.00 to 45.00; 85 to 90% lean, under 800 lbs., 39.50 to 40.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1400 to 1700 lbs., 63.00 to 66.50; high dressing, 1750 to 1820 lbs., 68.00 to 70.00; low dressing, 1350 to 1700 lbs., 56.00 to 63.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to middle-aged, 950 to 1625 lbs., 4 to 8 months bred, 600.00 to 900.00 per head; aged, 950 to 1360 lbs., 4 to 8 months bred, 385.00 to 660.00 per head.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to middle-aged, 800 to 1250 lbs., with 100- to 250-lb. calves, 635.00 to 1060.00 per pair; middle-aged to aged, 750 to 1100 lbs., with 100- to 250-lb. calves, 450.00 to 750.00 per pair.
