Springfield livestock sales

The Springfield Livestock Marketing Center, Springfield, Mo., reported receipts of 1,917 head April 23, compared to 2,185 head last week and 1,760 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo.

Compared to last week, steers under 700 pounds were steady to $2 lower, over 700 pounds were steady to $2 higher, Holsteins under 350 pounds were steady, 350 to 500 pounds were $4 to $10 higher, over 500 pounds were steady to $3 higher, heifers were steady. A noticeably higher percentage of bulls in the mix. Warmer temperatures and dryer weather brought out several more farmer buyers. Lower corn futures and higher cattle futures has been beneficial to the feeder cattle trade. The feeder supply included 19% steers, 28% Holsteins, 32% heifers, 21% bulls, with 35% over 600 pounds.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1 440 to 475 lbs., fleshy 110.50 to 113.00, package thin 119.50; 500 to 600 lbs., 108.00 to 112.00, fleshy 105.50 to 110.00, few thin 116.00; 600 to 655 lbs., 106.00 to 109.50; 700 to 800 lbs., 97.50 to 105.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300 to 400 lbs., 108.00 to 119.00; 400 to 450 lbs., 114.00 to 117.00, package thin 121.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 105.00 to 111.50; 600 to 700 lbs., 97.00 to 105.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 94.00 to 102.00; package 872 lbs., 91.00; 900 to 910 lbs., 88.00 to 91.50.

Holsteins: Large frame 3, 200 to 300 lbs., 74.00 to 86.00; 300 to 400 lbs., 70.00 to 83.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 70.00 to 82.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 65.00 to 79.50; 600 to 700 lbs., 60.00 to 72.00; 700 to 750 lbs., 58.00 to 69.50; 800 to 900 lbs., 62.50 to 67.75; lot 929 lbs., 59.00; 1000 to 1100 lbs., 57.00 to 58.50.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 350 to 400 lbs., 99.00 to 106.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 98.50 to 104.00, thin 104.50 to 106.50; 500 to 600 lbs., 93.00 to 105.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 91.50 to 99.00; 700 to 765 lbs., 90.00 to 91.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 350 to 400 lbs., 94.00 to 99.50; 400 to 500 lbs., 94.00 to 99.00, thin 96.00 to 103.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 89.00 to 97.50, thin 99.00 to 101.50; 600 to 665 lbs., 92.00 to 94.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 80.00 to 88.50.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1, 350 to 400 lbs., 112.00 to 116.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 110.00 to 119.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 99.00 to 110.00; 600 to 650 lbs., 95.00 to 107.00; 700 to 715 lbs., 97.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 350 to 400 lbs., 108.00 to 114.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 100.00 to 113.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 89.00 to 106.50, thin 103.00 to 109.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 95.50 to 98.50; 700 to 800 lbs., 86.00 to 89.50.
