Sioux Falls sheep sales

The Sioux Falls sheep auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., April 28, reported receipts of 903 head, compared t o 776 head last week and 1,324 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, slaughter lambs sold steady to weak on a light test, slaughter ewes sold steady. Trends are not applicable on feeder lambs due to light receipts last week, however a higher undertone prevailed. Buyer attendance and demand were moderate to good. This is the first appreciable offering of new crop feeder lambs. Receipts included 51% slaughter ewes, 39% feeder lambs and 10% slaughter lambs.

Slaughter lambs: Shorn, Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 137 to 144 lbs., 90.00 to 90.25 (90.04).

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 10 head, 157 to 159 lbs., 26.50 to 28.50 (27.69); 163 to 194 lbs., 24.50 to 27.00 (25.38). Good 2 to 4, 170 to 194 lbs., 22.50 to 23.50 (23.43). Utility 1 to 2, 136 to 156 lbs., 14.50 to 22.00 (17.15); 15 head, 197 to 198 lbs., 17.50 to 18.00 (17.67). Cull 1, 121 to 159 lbs., 6.00 to 13.00 (8.60).

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 10 head, 25 lbs., 129.00; 10 head, 36 lbs., 129.00; 26 head, 42 lbs., 119.00; 51 to 58 lbs., 117.00 to 122.00 (119.32); 52 head, 62 lbs., 116.00; 14 head, 65 lbs., 107.00 short docks; 74 to 79 lbs., 107.00 to 115.00 (110.99); 54 head, 81 lbs., 114.25.
