NCTA holding Cow/Calf College May 15 to 17Nebraska Farm and ranch managers are invited to attend the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture's Cow/Calf College. Scheduled for May 15 to 17, at the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture in Curtis , Neb., the college is sponsored NCTA and Land O'Lakes/Purina Feeds. Management and production topics to be discussed include: --Using distillers grains for cows; --Heifer development; --Cattle-handling principles; --Immunology and biosecurity; --Working with your banker; and --Herd health programs. The college also will include an overview of the new 100-Cow Ownership Advantage Outreach program, hands-on workshops, BQA and ultrasound demonstrations, low-stress cattle handling hands-on exercises, and irrigated grass tours. Experts on hand to present will include: --Dr. Lynn Locatelli, national expert on low-stress cattle handling; --Dr. Aaron Stalker, Beef and Range Specialist, University of Nebraska; --Dr. Rick Funston, Reproductive Physiologist, University of Nebraska; --Dr. Dee Griffin, Feedlot Production Veterinarian, University of Nebraska; --Dr. Jerry Woodruff, Field Veterinary Consultant, Fort Dodge Animal Health. The schedule is flexible, so participants can attend any day or all three days. Registration is $200 for the entire college or $100 per day, which includes two meals and a notebook of reference materials. Lodging is available for an additional cost.
