Livestock auction barn closes in Highmore

HIGHMORE, S.D. (AP)--After 48 years of operation, the livestock sale barn in Highmore has closed its doors.

It's estimated that about 4.6 million cattle have gone through the Highmore auction since it opened. It was the state's fifth-largest sale barn.

The auction barn's final sale was April 22.

A previous owner has purchased the sale barn, but his intentions have not been disclosed.
