Destination Guymon: Stars converge on PanhandleOklahoma The world's best rodeo athletes are finalizing their traveling plans for the first weekend in May. Destination: The Oklahoma Panhandle and Guymon Pioneer Days Rodeo, annually one of the top 10 Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association events in the country. About 1,000 of the top professional rodeo cowboys and cowgirls will converge on Guymon beginning April 28 for a week's worth of competition. Performances will take place 7:30 p.m., May 2; 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., May 3; and 2 p.m., May 4. This is where the winners play, from 45-year-old Billy Etbauer, a five-time world champion, to 20-year-old Taos Muncy, the reigning saddle bronc riding champ; from eight-time world champion and legend Joe Beaver to eight-time champ Trevor Brazile. This is where the fun is, from the car show downtown to the mercantile at the Texas County Activity Center to the carnival at the fairgrounds to the parade that winds through Guymon. This is where the entertainment is, from the terrific rides and runs at the rodeo to funnyman Cody Sosebee to the high-flying stunts of the ProTour FMX Freestyle MotoCross Exhibition Team. It's from one extreme to another, and it's why every year thousands of adoring fans find their way to Guymon for the best rodeo in the region. It's why the top cowboys and cowgirls make their way to Texas County to play the game. It's the Guymon Pioneer Days Rodeo.
