Amarillo livestock sales

The Amarillo Livestock Auction, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 557 head April 29, compared to 551 head last week and 1,022 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, this was a light run and not enough for an adequate market test. There was a limited test on slaughter cows. Slaughter bulls were not tested. The bulk of the limited supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 400- to 775-pound feeder steers and heifers. Trade and demand were moderate. Slaughter cows made up 5% of the offering, slaughter bulls less than 1%, replacement cows 10% and feeders 85%. The feeder supply included 75% steers and 25% heifers, with nearly 74% over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, package 393 lbs., 123.00; package 429 lbs., 128.00; few 515 to 566 lbs., 110.50 to 117.00; part load 766 lbs., 104.50; package 871 lbs., 96.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, package 601 lbs., full 101.00; loads 675 lbs., Mexican Origin 96.50; package 701 lbs., calves 95.00. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, few 425 to 450 lbs., 81.00 to 87.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, package 425 lbs., 108.00; package 568 lbs., 96.00; few 709 to 775 lbs., 90.00 to 95.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, package 263 lbs., 123.00; package 304 lbs., 112.00; few 580 to 590 lbs., 91.00 to 92.00; few 632 to 678 lbs., 98.00 to 98.50; package 705 lbs., 95.00.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1200 to 1600 lbs., 50.00 to 53.00; high dressing, 56.00; low dressing, 45.50. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 51.00 to 55.00; high dressing, 57.00; low dressing, 50.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 48.00 to 50.00; high dressing, 54.50 to 55.00; low dressing, 46.00; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 44.50 to 46.50.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, first-calf heifers, 800 to 950 lbs., 6 to 8 months bred, 730.00 to 870.00 per head; young to middle-aged, 1000 to 1400 lbs., 5 to 8 months bred, 825.00 to 910.00 per head; middle-aged to aged, 900 to 1200 lbs., 6 to 8 months bred, 555.00 to 610.00 per head.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to middle-aged, 950 to 1300 lbs., with 100- to 300-lb. calves, 900.00; middle-aged to aged, 900 to 1200 lbs., with newborn to 100-lb. calves, 570.00 to 580.00 per pair.
