UW College of Agriculture team wins Academic Quadrathlon

Wyoming

A University of Wyoming College of Agriculture team won the regional Academic Quadrathlon April 25 and 26. The event was on the UW campus and livestock facilities west of Laramie.

Capturing the championship were animal and veterinary sciences majors Rebecca Harrison, senior, Bakersfield, Calif.; Alison Iroz, senior, San Diego; Lander Nicodemus, senior, Cheyenne; and Lindsey Noreen, senior, Bowman, N.D.

Utah State University finished second, Brigham Young University-Idaho third and New Mexico State University fourth.

"It was very competitive between us and Utah State," said Noreen. "It was very challenging, but it was a lot of fun to get out there and test all the knowledge we've learned during college."

The UW team placed first in two components of the Academic Quadrathlon, including the oral presentation and laboratory practicum, and it finished second in the other two components, the written examination and quiz bowl.

UW's Wyoming Block and Bridle Club coordinated the event.

"The Academic Quadrathlon is focused on many areas of agriculture--renewable resources, animal science, animal nutrition, meat science and animal reproduction," said Wyoming Block and Bridle Club President Kaylee Reed, a junior animal science major from Newcastle. "It's definitely a competitive meet."
