Tulsa cattle sales report

The Tulsa Stockyards, Tulsa, Okla., reported receipts of 3,097 head May 19, compared to 1,292 last week and 2,799 last year, according to the Oklahoma Dept of Agriculture-USDA Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, steer and heifer calves were steady. Feeder steers were lightly tested and steady to $4 higher, with most advance on 7 weights. Feeder heifers were $1 to $2 lower, except 7 weights were $2 to $3 higher. Demand was very good for the light test of feeders and weaned calves. Weigh-ups were mostly average. There was a good attendance of buyers. Receipts included 44 percent steers, 49 percent heifers, 7 percent bulls, with 28 percent of feeder cattle over 600 pounds. Slaughter cows were mostly steady, with weaker demand near end of sale. Packer bulls were steady to $1 higher. A total of 457 cows and bulls sold with 66 percent going to packers.

The Tulsa Stockyards will be closed May 26 for Memorial Day.

Feeder Holstein steers: Large frame 3, 6 head, 604 lbs., 63.50.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1, 8 head, 409 to 445 lbs., 114.00 to 115.00 (114.87); 500 to 548 lbs., 104.00 to 113.00 (109.11); 550 to 593 lbs., 100.00 to 109.50 (106.86); 8 head, 605 to 635 lbs., 104.00 to 111.00 (106.67); 9 head, 650 to 670 lbs., 100.00 to 108.50 (106.55).

Boners, 75 head, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1525 lbs., 55.00 to 58.50; high dressing, 59.00 to 61.50; low dressing, 50.50 to 54.00. Lean, 98 head, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1450 lbs., 54.00 to 57.50; high dressing, 58.00 to 60.00; low dressing, 49.50 to 53.00. Light, 80 head, 85 to 90% lean, 700 to 1000 lbs., 49.00 to 52.50; high dressing, 53.00 to 57.00; low dressing, 44.50 to 48.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield Grade 1 and 2, 42 head, 1400 to 2200 lbs., 67.50 to 71.00; high dressing, 72.00 to 76.00; low dressing, 63.50 to 67.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 3 to 6 years old, 1050 to 1250 lbs., 4 to 7 months bred, average blacks, 800.00 to 810.00.

Pairs: Small and medium frame 3 to 4, 3 to 6 years old, 650 to 850 lbs., with 60- to 150-lb. calvesm Longhorn crosses, 400.00 to 500.00.
