NRCS announces CSP deadline extension

Colorado

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Natural Resources Conservation Service Chief Arlen Lancaster announced on May 7 that producers in the 51 watersheds nationwide will have two additional weeks to apply for the Conservation Security Program. The sign-up will now end May 30.

"The agency realized that the timing of this year's sign-up has been tough on producers," said John Knapp, NRCS Area Conservationist, La Junta, Colo. "The extra two weeks will give producers in the Upper Arkansas-John Martin Reservoir Watershed extra time to gather their natural resource records and to work with our field offices on this program."

CSP, a voluntary program, encourages and rewards producers who practice outstanding stewardship on working agricultural land by offering financial incentives that increase with the level of conservation effort.

For more information on CSP, contact your local field office or conservation district office or visit the Colorado website at www.co.nrcs.usda.gov and click on the Colorado Conservation Security Program link on the homepage.
