Joplin livestock sales report

The Joplin Regional Stockyards, Joplin, Mo., reported receipts of 7,000 head May 19, compared to 4,800 last week and 5,890 last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo.

Compared to last week, steers calves under 500 pounds were steady and steers over 500 pounds were steady to $2 higher. Heifers under 650 pounds were steady and over 650 pounds were steady to $3 higher. Demand was good for yearlings, moderate for calves. The supply was moderate to heavy. The feeder supply included 49 percent steers, 43 percent heifers, 7 percent bulls, with 42 percent over 600 pounds.

The Joplin Regional Stockyards will be closed May 26 for the Memorial Day holiday. The regular schedule will resume May 27.
