Arts council to hold juried Western art show

Art with Critters and Cowboys is the name of the first Western art show held by the Southwest Arts and Humanities Council. The show will run from May 24 through June 21.

There will be an opening reception June 1 from 2 to 5 p.m., at The Arts Center on Main in Downtown Garden City. This exhibit features Western art from artists all over the high-plains region. Critters and Cowboys Western Art Show is presented by SAHC in conjunction with Beef Empire Days, Garden City's salute to the Beef Industry.

Juror for this year's show is Doug Waters, a teacher and western artist from Hugoton. Prizes totaling $1,900 will be awarded the winners.

Stop in at The Arts Center on Main Street in Garden City during Beef Empire Days and through June 21 to see the western art exhibit. Regular hours are Tuesday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Open June 1 from 2 to 5 p.m. The Arts Center is free and accessible.
