Texas A&M ag economics alumni honored

Texas

Six Texas A&M University former students from the department of agricultural economics have been inducted into the Tyrus R. Timm Honor Registry.

The registry is the highest department-level honor, and inductees were recognized following Texas Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples' keynote speech April 30 at the Veranda in Bryan.

"We are extremely proud of these latest inductees," said Dr. John P. Nichols, department head. "These professionals exemplify why Texas A&M's Department of Agricultural Economics is one of the premier programs across the country."

The inductees were:

--Carl G. Anderson '58, professor emeritus, Texas A&M Department of Agricultural Economics, Texas AgriLife Extension Service.

--James F. "Jimmy" Dodson '74, Dodson Farms Inc., Nueces County, Corpus Christi-Chapman Ranch.

--Creed L. Ford III '75, Ford Restaurant Group and Fired Up Inc., Chili's Grill and Bar, Rudy's Texas Bar-B-Q, Ozona Grill and Bar, Kona Steak House Elite Circle Grille and Carino's Italian Grill.

--Gary R. Gunter '81, co-founder of Lone Star Overnight, Austin.

--Brig. Gen. Darren G. Owens '73, U.S. Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency and U.S. Army National Guard.

--Jimmy Wright '72, president and chief executive officer of Texas AgFinance, Robstown.

The honor registry is named after Tyrus R. Timm, who led the department from 1953 until 1973 during its rise to national prominence in teaching, research and Extension, and was widely known for his knowledge of finance and agricultural banking.
